Leonard Brooks

b. 1911

Leonard Brooks studied at the Ontario College of Art and travelled extensively during the 1930s. He worked as a war artist during World War II and following the war studied and worked in Mexico, eventually settling in San Miguel Allende. One of the foremost Canadian artists of the last century, Brooks exhibited widely including exhibitions at the 1939 World's Fair, the Royal Canadian Academy, the Canadian Embassy in Mexico, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery in Canada, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico, Palacio de Belles Artes in Mexico, the Worcester Art Museum, and Dartmouth College. Leonard Brooks has written numerous books on painting and painting techniques.
