Joy Laville

Joy Laville was born in England, moved to Canada in the 1940s (where she discovered Mexican art), and then to San Miguel Allende, Mexico in the 1950s where she studied for several years at the Instituto Allende (her only formal training). Painting and exhibiting in Mexico for the past 50 years, Laville became a key figure in twentieth century Mexican art. During the spring of 2004, Joy Laville was honored with a retrospective exhibition at Mexico City’s Museo de Arte Moderno. Laville's work has been exhibited worldwide and is in major public and private collections.
