Henry Rothman

American
1910-1990

Born in Vienna, Rothman studied journalism at New York University in the 1930s. He became a photographer and then opened a small frame shop which became a salon for artists such as Weegee, Louise Nevelson, and Jacques Lipchitz. Rothman began making collages in the 1950s which he framed and sold or gave away to artist friends who visited his frame shop. Rothman's work is in the collections of the Provincetown Art Association, the International Museum of Collage and Assemblage, the National Gallery of Canada, and others.
