Borgenicht

1915-2001
Grace Borgenicht
was an important New York art dealer and painter. Grace Borgenicht
studied at New College at Columbia University, with André
L'Hote in Paris, and with Stanley Hayter at Atelier 17 in New
York. She eventually earned a master's degree in art education
from Columbia. She had her first solo show at Laurel Gallery
in New York in 1947. She also exhibited at the Martha Jackson
Gallery and at the Whitney Museum Annual in the 1950s. Borgenicht
began her career as an art dealer initially working with the
Laurel Gallery before opening her own gallery in 1951. The Borgenicht
Gallery was a pioneering venue for American modernists including
Milton Avery, Gabor Peterdi, Max Ernst, Gertrude Greene, Jose
de Rivera, and others.
