Elaine Kurtz

Elaine Kurtz was a distinguished painter known for minimalist, nature-based abstract paintings. Kurtz studied at the Univeristy of the Arts in Philadelphia and worked as a commercial artist until the 1960s. Influenced by the Washington, D.C. Color Field School, Kurtz exhibited regularly at galleries such as Marian Locks Gallery in Philadelphia, Kouros Gallery in New York, Martha Jackson Gallery in New York, Gross McLeaf Gallery in Philadelphia, and many others. Kurtz's work was the subject of a major retrospective at the Woodmere Museum in 2012. Elaine Kurtz's work is in major collections such as the Smithsonian, Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn, the Library of Congress, and many others.
