1907-1978
Jean Vinay
was born in 1907 and in 1933 moved to Montmartre, Paris where
he began his artistic career. After spending World War II in
Algiers (sharing a studio with Albert Marquet), he returned to
Paris in 1946 where he became known as "the painter of Paris."
Vinay had countless exhibitions at major galleries in France
and the U.S. His work is in major museums, including the Musée
National dArt Moderne à Paris and the Tate Gallery
in London. This painting, bearing an exhibition label from the
Findlay Galleries, Chicago and was likely exhibited there in
the 1960s.
