Castells Capurro Castells Capurro was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and was entirely self-taught (though he was influenced by his Uncle, also an artist). Castells Capurro initially gained fame as an illustrator but later became a highly regarded muralist and painter. His paintings of cowboys or gauchos, horses, and the cowboy lifestyle, offering a romantic image of a bygone era, captured the attention and affection of Uruguay. During his lifetime (and today), Castells Capurro's paintings were prized worldwide and were in the collections of Lyndon B. Johnson, Golda Meir, Douglas Fairbanks, Nelson Rockefeller, and many others. Today, his work is in major public and private collections (including the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the University of Texas). SOLD |
